Safety First Educator / Trainers have vast experience in all OSHA standards related to forklift, aerial work platform, conveyor, crane & hoist, and safety program development.
Hoj Engineering created their Education Department in 1990 to comply with the federal forklift operator certification requirement and has since been expanded to include other areas of safety training. Hoj’s instructors are certified in each of the seminars we lead.
Forklift Training
Hoj Engineering's Seminar Division was created in 1990 to comply with the federal forklift operator certification requirement and has since been expanded to include other areas of safety training. Hoj's instructors are certified in each of the seminars we lead.
When OSHA implemented the new Forklift Training Standard on December 1st, 1998 (1910.178), they included an outline or curriculum that must (shall) be followed in certification seminars. In addition, they require that certification seminars be site specific and forklift specific.
- Forklift geometry. Speed and Mass. Guards and safety equipment. Physics of lifting and degradation formulas.
- Installation of attachments for forklifts. Load handling. Forklift classification and design.
- Safety equipment. Dock safety. Driving environment. Fuel and explosion ratings. OSHA and ANSI Standards.
Aerial Work Platform Training
Aerial Work Platforms performs pea vital service in industry today, whether it be a scissors lift used for building maintenance, a telescopic boom used for construction or a truck mounted boom for utility use. ANSI and OSHA require all operators be trained in all aspects of aerial used in the workplace.
The PAL (Powered Access License) Card, recognized worldwide as proof of the highest quality training for operators of aerial work platforms, is now available in North America. Safety First Education & Training has partnered with AWPT as an accredited t raining center for all types of Aerial Work Platform Training.
The PAL card includes the operator’s signature, photograph, date of training, date of expiration and type of equipment. It is respected world wide across all industries.
AWPT (Aerial Work Platform Training, Inc.) programs are based on the successful programs offered by the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) and developed by leading industry professionals. All Training meets US and Canadian legislation and has been independently audited by “UV , the leading German Standards Accreditation Organization as confirming with the International Standard ISO 18878:2004.
Conveyor Training
Frequently, conveyor safety is thrown in with a companies general safety program and not enough effort is given to a proper "Conveyor Safety Training Program".
Hoj Engineering, because of its engineering background in all types of conveyors, conducts safety seminars in conveyor safety and inspection. The seminar program is based upon the ANSI Standard #B20.1 as well as relevant OSHA information.
Prior to conducting a conveyor safety seminar for a customer, a study of your operation is made so that the seminar is site specific as well as conveyor specific.
- Study and analysis. Nip points. Shear points. Pinch points. Crossovers.
- Transfer tables. Headroom. Guarding. Protective equipment. Shutdown procedures. Startup procedures (types of startups). Emergency stop procedures.
- Establishing a conveyor inspection and Maintenance program. Lockout / Tag out program for the conveyor (LOTO).
Crane & Hoist Seminar
The crane seminar program is perhaps the most interesting of the seminars produced. It is certainly the most intense and informative. Because OSHA is so strict on the enforcement of inspection and maintenance of cranes, there always seems to be more at stake as well.
As stated in the OSHA standard on "Bridge Crane Inspections", number 1910.179 it reads "daily, monthly and semiannual/yearly inspections shall be done." Therefore, Hoj Engineering recommends that companies should train their own employees to conduct all daily and monthly inspections.
- Wire rope design and operation. Wire rope inspection and maintenance. Chain measurement and inspection.
- Runway and trolley operation. Hook inspection, measurement and testing. Pendant controls. Electrical-Lock out / Tagout (LO/TO). Lifting and rigging
- Setting the "Utilization Class". Setting inspection frequencies. Record keeping. OSHA and ANSI Standards.
